If this rumor is true, then Microsoft is taking an incomprehensible step, which is not exactly positive.

Rebs Gaming reports in the embedded video below that they spoke with two unnamed sources connected to the Halo series developers. Both said the remake of the first entry in the series is scheduled for release to coincide with the franchise’s 25th anniversary next year. Development for the remake is said to have started in 2023, but it may only include a single-player campaign, as neither source mentioned any multiplayer elements.

There has been no word yet on whether the unannounced remake will appear on consoles other than Xbox Series. If it is the project that data miners uncovered last month, there’s a chance the series could cross over to the PlayStation 5, just as Gears of War Reloaded is about to make its Sony debut next month.

Beyond the discussion of Halo: Combat Evolved Remake, Rebs Gaming also provided updates on Project Ekur, the renamed battle royale originally developed as part of Halo Infinite’s multiplayer. The project is now reportedly in the hands of Certain Affinity. Its current status is unknown, but prominent Halo data miner Grunt.API recently pointed to a new ID code confirming the project’s existence, with steady updates indicating ongoing development.

A remake of the first Halo installment has yet to be announced, but it won’t be long before we find out if it’s real: Halo Studios will hold HaloWC 2025 in October, where it will reveal the franchise’s direction. Hopefully, we’ll have a better sense of the future for the series that’s most defined Xbox since Microsoft entered the console market.
