Jaime Lannister Is Now King – BBC Unveils Brutal Medieval Epic [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – There may be no dragons this time, but Game of Thrones (and Vikings) fans will want to keep their eyes on Jaime Lannister in this new medieval drama. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau takes on the role of William the Conqueror in King & Conqueror, a sweeping historical epic heading to the BBC.

While we’re still waiting for the Vikings creator’s new Prime Video series about Erik Bloodaxe, fans of palace intrigue and historic battles can look forward to the BBC’s upcoming epic about William the Conqueror. The lead role is played by none other than the iconic Game of Thrones star.

King & Conqueror stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau—famous as Jaime Lannister from HBO’s acclaimed show—opposite James Norton as Harold, Earl of Wessex. Their clash, according to the BBC, “defined the future of a country—and a continent—for a thousand years.” The series premieres August 24.

No dragons or White Walkers this time, but the trailer promises a technical tour de force that dives into the complex personal and dynastic stories of two men who, initially allies, are ultimately driven into a war for the English crown. “Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy—two men whose destinies collided at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, first allies, then rivals, swept up in a power struggle for the throne of England,” according to the creators.

Release Date or Platform?

King & Conqueror will air in the UK on BBC channels, with Paramount Global handling international distribution. That doesn’t guarantee a SkyShowtime debut in Hungary, so it may appear sooner or later on other platforms. In any case, Hungarian fans of grand historical dramas should circle August 24 for the premiere, and keep an eye out for more series like Barbarians (available on Netflix). If you have any recommendations in this genre, drop them in the comments—we’re always looking for more epic tales!
