MOVIE NEWS – DC Studios head James Gunn, known for directing the upcoming Superman reboot, says he’s especially excited about one upcoming DC game project—but everything is still in early planning. In a new interview, he also acknowledged big changes within Warner Bros. Games and teased that new creative directions are taking shape. While smaller DC titles are on the way, larger-scale projects remain under wraps for now.
Although James Gunn is currently best known for overseeing DC’s cinematic reboot alongside Peter Safran—especially the new Superman movie he’s directing—his responsibilities also include tracking the progress of upcoming DC video games. Speaking to GamesRadar, Gunn revealed that one particular project has him especially excited, though he emphasized that it’s still in the very early stages of development and planning.
“There’s been some slight movement on different things,” Gunn explained. “We have a couple of little DC games coming out. But we’ve also talked about—and are in the early stages of planning—some bigger things. One thing in particular I’m excited about, but it does take time. There’s been some changes in Warner Bros. Games, and so we’re dealing with new people.”
The restructuring he refers to includes WB Games narrowing its focus to four core franchises—DC, Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, and Game of Thrones. This transition has already led to the closure of Monolith Productions and Player First Games, as well as the cancellation of the long-rumored Wonder Woman game.
For now, the next big DC-themed release will be LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, officially announced during Gamescom ONL 2025. The game is expected to launch on PC and consoles in 2026, and currently stands as the most visible DC gaming title in development.
What exactly Gunn is hinting at remains unclear, but fans can expect at least one ambitious project quietly taking shape behind the scenes—one that clearly has the director’s full attention.
