According to Circana (NPD Group) data from July, demand for the Big N’s next-generation hardware is particularly high.
Mat Piscatella, Circana’s managing director and gaming industry analyst, published U.S. sales data for July based on dollar sales of physical and digital games and hardware. Following Nintendo‘s latest quarterly report showing that the Nintendo Switch 2 had sold 6 million units worldwide, Piscatella revealed the console’s latest regional milestone: more than 2 million units sold in the United States alone. The Switch 2 was July’s top-selling hardware both in terms of units and revenue, and equally striking is that it outsold the original Switch by 75% in the U.S. during the same timeframe when the Switch launched in March 2017.
On the software front, EA Sports College Football 26 dominated July, securing the number one spot across all platforms for premium (paid) game sales in the United States. Madden NFL 26 also performed well despite launching on August 14, right at the beginning of the month. EA offered an MVP bundle that packaged both College Football 26 and Madden NFL 26 together, and it became the second best-selling premium title after College Football 26. The bundle sold just as strongly, ensuring that both titles entered the list of the 20 best-selling games of 2025 in the U.S. College Football 26 climbed to third overall, just behind The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Monster Hunter Wilds, while the MVP bundle ranked 12th.
Other noteworthy titles in the sales rankings include Donkey Kong Bananza, which secured third place in July, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, which finished in fourth. Grounded 2 also made the list, although it placed only eighth in overall premium sales across platforms. However, it achieved a much stronger showing on PC, where in July it surpassed Elden Ring: Nightreign, even though Nightreign still held onto second place overall.
The Nintendo Switch 2 still has some ground to cover if it is to meet analysts’ projections of 15 million units sold worldwide by the end of 2025.
