Has Google Finished Developing Its AI Glasses?

TECH NEWS – Rumor has it that HTC will manufacture the product, but it is unclear when it will be available to the public.

The AI glasses market is ready for growth, and Google has a clear advantage over its competitors when it comes to releasing its own product, thanks to its experience developing the Android platform. Previously, we heard that Google had no intention of launching its own model, but we have since learned otherwise. Alphabet’s subsidiary has apparently finished developing its smart glasses and has named several manufacturers who could bring the device to life.

Google’s AI glasses have completed the “research and development” phase, but according to IT Home, the company has not yet decided whether to launch the product. Quanta was responsible for designing the prototype of the unnamed smart glasses, while HTC served as the contract manufacturer. HTC already has experience with its own AI glasses, the Vive Eagle, which came equipped with a built-in Chinese LLM and other relevant specifications.

Once the entire supply chain is set up, the only question is whether Google will greenlight the launch and enter a market currently dominated by Meta. According to data published by Counterpoint Research, global shipments of smart glasses grew 110% in the first half of 2025 compared to the previous year, driven entirely by the Ray-Ban Meta model. AI smart glasses accounted for 78% of shipments in the first half of 2025, compared to 46% in the first half of 2024 and 66% in the second half.

These statistics represent a significant opportunity for other players, as Meta held a 73% market share in the first half of 2025. When Google decides to launch its version, the Android XR platform will need to deliver greater flexibility and a better user experience. Users’ muscle memory will carry over when switching from smartphones to head-mounted wearables, meaning many will instinctively make gestures.
