Borderlands 4 Switch 2 Port Delayed Indefinitely – Cross-Save Coming Later

Gearbox and Take-Two (2K) have confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 won’t arrive in early October as planned. The release has been postponed indefinitely while the developers focus on polishing the experience and adding cross-save support.

Borderlands 4 launched on September 12 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store). The original plan was for the Nintendo Switch 2 port to arrive on October 3, but Gearbox has now revealed that the release is being delayed without a new date in sight. According to the developer, the delay is necessary to ensure the best possible experience for players and to finalize the highly requested cross-save feature.

“Greetings, Vault Hunters. We regret to inform you that the release of Borderlands 4 on the Nintendo Switch 2 is being delayed. We do not take this decision lightly, but we are committed to ensuring that we deliver the best possible experience to our fans. The game needs additional development and polish time. We hope to align this release with the addition of cross-saves, which we know is very important. All digital pre-orders will be canceled in accordance with Nintendo’s policy. Customers can do so now or it will happen automatically on Friday, September 26. For eShop questions, contact Nintendo. For physical pre-orders, contact the retailer. We greatly appreciate the feedback, support, and patience of our fans and community. It’s what keeps us going,” wrote Gearbox.

The situation remains uncertain. It could be just a few more weeks, but it’s also possible the release could slip into December or even early 2026. In the meantime, players are encouraged to cancel their pre-orders if they wish and keep an eye on official channels for updates.
