The legendary Might & Magic saga is back — and its new chapter has already broken records at the Steam Next Fest. Ubisoft and Hooded Horse’s collaboration, Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era, is off to a phenomenal start.
The Heroes of Might & Magic series has seen its share of highs and lows — not so much in quality, since many titles still hold up today, but in how rarely new installments have been released. The last entry, Might & Magic Heroes VII, launched in 2015. Now, a decade later, fans can finally celebrate a major comeback: Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era has already made PC history by becoming the most-played strategy demo in Steam’s history during the Steam Next Fest.
Player enthusiasm is massive. Over 100,000 users follow the Olden Era page on Steam, and more than one million have added the game to their wishlists, ranking it 14th overall on the platform. It also leads the turn-based strategy category by a wide margin. According to SteamDB, the demo reached a peak of over 24,000 concurrent players, breaking all previous records for the genre.
Developer Unfrozen Studios and publisher Hooded Horse (best known for Manor Lords) shared heartfelt thanks with their growing community. “Nothing could have prepared us for this level of support and passion to help us make the game even better — we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts! We love you all and will continue to work hard on the Early Access version thanks to your support.”
The Only Downside: A Delay to 2026
Despite its early success, fans will need to wait a bit longer to experience the full game. The Early Access launch for Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era has been postponed until 2026, with no confirmed release date yet. Meanwhile, the demo remains available on Steam, allowing players to explore the world and provide feedback as development continues.
