Keanu Reeves’ New Sci-Fi Action Thriller Is Perfect for ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ Fans

MOVIE NEWS – Keanu Reeves is gearing up to return to the John Wick franchise for a fifth entry, but he’s also added another high-octane project to his slate. While fans may have to keep waiting indefinitely for an Edge of Tomorrow sequel, Reeves is tackling a similar premise with an acclaimed superhero-film director at the helm.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves is set to lead Shiver, a sci-fi action thriller from Deadpool director Tim Miller. Penned by Ian Shorr (Infinite), the script is being pitched as Edge of Tomorrow meets The Shallows. Reeves plays a smuggler who gets caught in a time loop after a double-cross during a job in the Caribbean. Between its genre hook and tropical setting, Shiver looks like a distinctive spin on time-loop sci-fi as Warner Bros. reportedly closes in on a deal.

“Plot details are very hazy, but the word on the street is that the story centers on a ne’er-do-well smuggler who finds himself in the middle of a deadly double-cross while on a job in the Caribbean Sea, resulting in him surrounded by bodies, hostile mercenaries, and thirsty sharks alike. He next finds himself a deathly time loop and scrambling to break the cycle.”

Reeves and Miller reunite on Shiver after collaborating on Secret Level, a Prime Video animated anthology adapting iconic game franchises. Created by Miller, the show featured Reeves in an Armored Core episode—an oft-cited highlight of what many considered a mixed bag. They’re joined here by producers Matthew Vaughn (the Kingsman films) and Aaron Ryder (Dumb Money, Pieces of a Woman), further raising the project’s profile.

Among Reeves’ most anticipated projects is Constantine 2, the long-gestating follow-up to the 2005 DC film. Francis Lawrence, who went on to steer The Hunger Games, is back to direct, but updates have been sparse since Warner Bros. announced the sequel in 2022. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn recently said he hasn’t read the script yet, keeping the status opaque for now.

Reports suggest multiple drafts have circulated, with Reeves confirming in early October that “another draft of the script came in. We’re gonna take it to the studio and hopefully they like it too.” The studio in question is assumed to be DC Studios under Gunn and Peter Safran, and the film will likely land as an Elseworlds title—like Matt Reeves’ The Batman — Part II. Either way, Reeves’ dance card is stacked for the next few years with John Wick 5, a feature based on his BRZRKR comic, and Shiver, Tim Miller’s time-loop thriller.
