The system literally had to be debugged. Financial Dystopia recently reported on Twitter that the DVD Game Exchange Repair Center, a service center located in Orem, Utah, received a faulty PlayStation 5 for repair. After opening the system and confirming that the power supply was not the issue, they found that the system was probably not working due to many faults.

The service employee showed in the video how the cockroaches crawled out of the console after finding a disgusting amount of cockroach droppings on the system’s components. However, the system owner still had to debug the console. The repair shop wrapped the console in plastic to prevent the insects from escaping before returning it. Looking through the responses, other users reported similar disgusting experiences. Some have found black widow spiders in their PC cases, so a cockroach-infested PlayStation 5 is hardly the first system to become an insect’s nesting ground. This is a warning to all console and PC users: Clean your systems regularly, because they can harbor things much worse than dust. Investing a little time in cleaning now can save you from a truly stomach-churning repair bill later.

In addition to cleaning the PlayStation 5 as often as possible (to avoid similar problems), owners of older models should be aware of liquid metal issues caused by a design flaw. These issues can cause permanent damage to the system. Although this problem has been solved in the latest models, it remains a widely known issue.
