Davy x Jones: The Pirate FPS Has Received a Massive Update!

Have you always dreamed of setting sail on a living ship? You can now do so in Parasight’s game, Davy x Jones.

Davy x Jones, released in August, is a roguelike first-person shooter (FPS) in which you control a headless pirate named Jones and fight your way through the underworld in first-person combat scenes, accompanied by a talkative skull companion named Davy. The early access version received a pleasant, albeit quiet, reception. It was an imaginative but raw game. The shooter has now received a significant update that has expanded and transformed its foundations. The update has doubled the scope of the game by adding a second mode in which players control a living ship and explore the underworld from an external perspective. The ship is a hybrid with a wooden hull and the body of a cosmic space whale. It’s called Abby and looks utterly terrifying.

The ship isn’t just for transportation. The update also introduced naval battles in which we can engage in artillery warfare with other underworld ships, as well as a crew system that allows us to recruit ghostly figures who bring new weapons, attack types, and other abilities. There is also a boss battle against a Kraken, a dynamic fight that tests our strategic thinking, crew, and ship defenses to their limits.

The update has significantly revamped the game’s Jones side as well. First-person combat has been expanded with heavy attacks, quick strikes, and a deeper five-hit combo system. Shooting has been reworked with ammo restrictions and a refined reload system. Melee attacks have received improved animations, and enemies have been given AI tweaks to make fighting them more fun. Furthermore, the skill tree has been redesigned to accommodate the new crew recruitment system, and there is now a codex full of tips and guides. In addition, the update supports Nvidia’s frame-generation technology and AMD FSR4, and it also adds some Steam achievements.

However, developer Parasight warns that existing saves will be corrupted and incompatible due to the numerous changes. The shooter is available at a 20% discount until December 9 (€14.40 instead of €18).
