After Nearly Three Decades, Sucker Punch Co-Founder Brian Fleming Steps Down

Brian Fleming, co-founder and longtime leader of Sucker Punch Productions, is leaving the studio after nearly thirty years. His departure marks the beginning of a new chapter for one of PlayStation Studios’ most respected teams.

Sucker Punch Productions has officially confirmed that Brian Fleming, one of its co-founders and a key figure in the studio’s history, is stepping away from his leadership role. In a blog post published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the studio announced that Jason Connell and Adrian Bentley will take over as co-presidents, while Nate Fox remains on board as co-creative director.

Fleming addressed his departure in a personal LinkedIn post, admitting that even he is unsure what comes next. “So, what do you think I should do next? That’s the big question — because after 28 life-changing years at the helm of Sucker Punch, I’ve decided it’s time to shake up the snow globe”, he wrote.

He emphasized his confidence in the team taking over. “I’m leaving Sucker Punch in the capable hands of the strongest leadership team we’ve ever had. Adrian and Jason will do an amazing job as studio heads”, Fleming added, praising the rest of the studio’s directors for being ready to lead the company forward.

Although the announcement signals a major transition, Fleming will not be leaving immediately. He plans to remain with the studio until April to help Connell and Bentley manage the leadership handover. After that, he intends to take a break and travel with his family. Looking ahead, Fleming said he is considering a range of future opportunities, spanning the gaming industry, technology, entertainment, and even advocacy or politics.

Over the past 28 years, Fleming played a crucial role in shaping Sucker Punch Productions into a powerhouse within PlayStation Studios. Under his leadership, the studio delivered franchises such as inFamous, Sly Cooper, and Ghost of Tsushima, earning a loyal fanbase and a reputation for quality and consistency. His departure closes a defining era, but the studio now looks ahead to its post-Fleming future.
