Nintendo Switch 2: Is a YouTube App Finally Coming Soon? [VIDEO]

TECH NEWS – It has been nearly eight months since Nintendo Switch 2 launched, yet one of the most basic apps is still missing. A new rumor claims the YouTube app could finally land on the console – possibly as soon as February.

As odd as it sounds, it looks like Nintendo and Google didn’t really plan for the hybrid system to be used for anything beyond games, even though it’s a portable device people can take anywhere – including places you’d rather not picture too vividly.

What makes it even stranger is the timing: we’re approaching the eight-month mark since Nintendo Switch 2 hit the market, and there’s still no official YouTube app. We’ve heard variations of this story before – that Google’s video platform would “eventually” arrive – but nothing concrete has happened so far.

This time, the claim comes from a video (linked below) in which a Discord moderator associated with YouTube says Google is actively working on the app, and that it could launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in February. Even if it does, it’s hard to imagine it becoming a massive deal: while Nintendo’s new hardware isn’t exactly struggling in sales terms, YouTube usage on the company’s current and previous systems has never been particularly strong. Some creator-facing estimates put the share at around 0.3% in the best-case scenario.

Most people still default to their phones when they want to watch videos on the move – on the bus, or during those quiet bathroom minutes when time inexplicably slows down. From that angle, it’s not shocking that Google may not have treated a Nintendo Switch 2 client as a top priority: an iPhone or an Android device is easier to carry, and the viewing experience is already there. All you need is WiFi, assuming your router isn’t so ancient it drops the connection every few minutes.

So, will it happen? Probably. But we’re not expecting Google to treat Nintendo Switch 2 as a major pillar of its app strategy once it’s out.
