Nintendo Switch 2: Still No Price Increase!

Of course, this means that Nintendo will not raise the price of its June release anytime soon.

Since the memory shortage is unavoidable and the price of devices has already risen due to the shortage and rising RAM costs, a price increase for consoles, including the Nintendo Switch 2, seems inevitable. The only question is when it will happen. So far, Nintendo has been cautious about raising the price of the Switch 2. When tariffs were a major factor that could affect the console’s price, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said the price could rise. However, he was merely warning gamers to prepare for a possible situation, not stating that it was certain to happen.

Furukawa took the same approach in response to cost increases caused by memory and RAM shortages. Last month, he said that Nintendo needs to keep a close eye on the situation rather than assuming that prices will rise and that gamers can currently expect the price of the console to remain unchanged. In the Q&A section of Nintendo‘s latest financial report, Furukawa reiterated this view, adding that he does not want to be overly influenced by what could be a short-term phase for the industry. He also said that price changes will be determined comprehensively, taking into account not only profitability, but also platform acceptance, sales trends, and market conditions.

The Switch 2 sold 17.37 million units in 2025, marking an incredibly successful launch for the hybrid platform. If Nintendo can maintain its strong sales momentum, it will be more likely to offset the loss of profit from console manufacturing with software sales, even with the rise in memory costs.

Of course, it’s possible that memory prices will rise so much that Nintendo won’t be able to offset the costs with software sales. In that case, they’ll have to raise the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 to minimize losses. For now, though, it appears the price will remain unchanged. They won’t raise the price at the beginning of the year, but rather around May. They just pushed it back by a quarter. That’s our guess.
