Frogwares has released a new game overview video lasting more than five minutes, showing what it will take to survive the monster-infested, flooded city of Arkham in The Sinking City 2. Alongside combat, investigation, and resource management, the trailer provides a closer look at the story of Calvin Rafferty and Faye Bennett, with the latter voiced by Gemma Whelan, best known as Yara Greyjoy from Game of Thrones.

Ahead of The Sinking City 2‘s August 18 launch, Frogwares has released a narrated overview trailer summarizing what players can expect from its Lovecraftian survival horror game. The setting is Arkham, located in a twisted version of 1920s America and devastated by a supernatural flood as eldritch horrors infest its streets and crumbling buildings. Players step into the role of occult adventurer Calvin Rafferty, whose reckless actions in the past have led to devastating consequences. After a dreaming ritual goes terribly wrong, his partner Faye Bennett becomes trapped in a mysterious sleep-like state, and she is precisely why Calvin refuses to abandon a city almost everyone else has already given up on.

The new footage does more than simply tour Arkham’s locations, as it also explores how Calvin and Faye’s story is intertwined with the city’s escalating nightmare. Calvin is forced deeper into flooded streets, decaying buildings, and abandoned districts as he searches for a way to free Faye from the condition caused by the ritual. The trailer places particular emphasis on the idea that the protagonist’s personal tragedy is not merely background flavor but the direct reason he repeatedly chooses to put himself in mortal danger. Arkham consequently becomes more than a monster-filled setting for Calvin: it is a place he cannot simply walk away from without abandoning the person who brought him there. The story therefore promises a more personal focus while still remaining firmly rooted in Lovecraftian cosmic horror.

Ammo Is Precious, but Investigation Hasn’t Disappeared

The gameplay portions make it clear that Frogwares is moving much more decisively toward survival horror this time around. Ammunition is precious, resources are limited, and players will constantly have to decide what is worth carrying and what should be left behind. Period-inspired firearms are joined by melee weapons, but the message of the new footage is clear: shooting everything that moves will not necessarily be a sustainable way to survive Arkham.

The series’ investigative roots have not been abandoned, however. Exploring Arkham more thoroughly can lead to optional cases and puzzles that uncover additional information, secrets, upgrades, and other useful rewards. Frogwares has previously stressed that investigation is no longer intended to become a mandatory obstacle blocking story progression, but instead functions as an additional layer for players willing to dig deeper into the environment and the mysteries surrounding the city. The trailer consequently presents a game primarily built around combat, survival, and exploration without completely discarding the detective heritage that helped establish Frogwares’ reputation.

The new presentation also spends time introducing the performers behind its two central characters. Calvin Rafferty is voiced by Andrew Wheildon-Dennis, whose previous video game credits include Baldur’s Gate III, The Invincible, 007 First Light, Blue Prince, and Dragon’s Dogma III. Faye Bennett is played by Gemma Whelan, best known to television audiences as Yara Greyjoy in HBO’s Game of Thrones.

Whelan is no newcomer to video games either, having previously worked on Elden Ring, Mass Effect: Andromeda, and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III. Frogwares therefore appears to be placing substantial emphasis not only on the mechanics of survival but also on the relationship and performances of its two central characters. The Sinking City 2 launches on August 18, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, meaning there are now only a few days left before players can see for themselves how effectively survival horror meshes with Frogwares’ traditional investigative approach.
