Konami Quietly Pulled Metal Gear Solid 4 And Peace Walker From Digital Stores

Without warning, and just days after Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 was announced, Konami has quietly removed two classic Metal Gear titles from digital storefronts. The digital versions of Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker are no longer available to buy.

Players can no longer buy Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker through digital stores. Konami has not published an official notice explaining the change, but users have spotted that both titles have vanished from purchase listings. With both games set to appear in the recently revealed Master Collection Vol. 2, many are reading the move as a way to steer demand toward the new package.

On X, users such as SlySinatraa pointed out that the PSN listing for Metal Gear Solid 4 is no longer purchasable. The same situation appears to apply to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PSP digital editions of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. This will likely have limited impact for many players, since both games are old releases that originally launched on consoles more than a decade ago. Still, anyone looking to purchase the two titles digitally will be blocked until Master Collection Vol. 2 arrives on August 27. Players who already bought them in the past, or who own physical copies, can keep playing as normal.

As noted up front, the delistings happened only days after Konami officially announced Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. The compilation, which touts visual enhancements, includes Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, the latter included under the collection’s bonus content. In other words, it looks like the IP holder has removed existing digital versions and left the upcoming collection as the primary route for players who want these games on modern platforms.

What’s Included In Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2?

Beyond the three highlighted games, Master Collection Vol. 2 also packs in a notable set of extras for Metal Gear fans. Specifically, it includes a storybook and an additional document detailing the story history and characters for each entry, alongside a digital-edition soundtrack. Even so, there are still a few weeks to go before release, as the collection is scheduled for August 27.
