A #SavePrinceofPersia campaign is gathering signatures to push Ubisoft into reviving Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, yet the numbers so far underline how hard it is to shift strategy inside a publisher of this size.
Ubisoft’s recent restructuring has been felt across the video game industry, and the company’s cost-cutting plan has already led to multiple cancellations. Among the projects caught in that wave is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, a title that – until recently – looked set to arrive in the first quarter of 2026.
The cancellation surprised many players, and the backlash has quickly turned into an organized effort. The initiative is called #SavePrinceofPersia, it has spread across social media, and it has also produced a petition on Change.org. For now, the petition has collected a little over 7,000 signatures, and the people behind it openly acknowledge that this figure is unlikely to force an internal pivot at Ubisoft on its own. Even so, they insist the point is to be heard and to remind the publisher that there are thousands of Prince of Persia fans ready to buy not only the Sands of Time remake, but also future entries – if they ever get made.
The petition was launched by Uyimero and Prince of Persia Universe, with support from the Brazilian outlet Portal Viciados. It frames the original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time as more than a fantasy adventure, describing it as a milestone for Ubisoft and for the broader games industry. It also lists the remake’s troubled development – criticism, delays, a full reboot of the project, and internal shifts at Ubisoft – before arguing that years of work, creative investment, and developer effort should not end in silence. In short, the request is straightforward: resume development and ship the remake.
In a separate message posted on X, the organizers add that while other studios can remake entire trilogies, they have not received a single remake in six years. They also say they have not received any response from Ubisoft so far, even though they believe the company has seen both the public post and the #SavePrinceofPersia petition. With no clarity on why the publisher remains silent, they conclude that Ubisoft does not appear particularly interested in the franchise – leaving fans to wait and hope for either a new game someday, or a surprise reversal.
Why This Is an Uphill Battle
The harsh reality is that Change.org campaigns rarely drive meaningful change inside companies the size of Ubisoft, especially at the current scale of support. Insider Gaming journalist Tom Henderson highlighted this in a comment on X, arguing that the limited traction effectively explains the silence: if the remake needed, say, $20 million in investment to reach the quality standard fans want – his figure, not a reported budget – then 7,000 signatures are, unfortunately, negligible.
This is not the first time players have tried to pressure Ubisoft into revisiting a decision, but #SavePrinceofPersia remains far narrower than other signature-driven movements. Stop Killing Games also began with collecting signatures and eventually made it into parliamentary discussions in countries such as the United Kingdom, largely because its focus was broader: preserving access to online games even after official servers shut down. By contrast, #SavePrinceofPersia primarily appeals to a single franchise’s fanbase and has not turned into a mass-scale push.
Still, the campaign does make one thing clear: there is a dedicated audience willing to pay for remakes and new entries in the Prince of Persia universe. In theory, Ubisoft could use that demand to justify smaller, lower-risk projects that might generate revenue and bring new players into the community, but optimism is hard to sustain after the abrupt cancellation of Sands of Time Remake – especially as the company faces other critical issues, including workforce protests linked to cuts and workplace conditions.
