Walton Goggins Is Loving Madrid – Until A John Wick-Style Bloodbath Kicks Off

MOVIE NEWS – Walton Goggins, fresh off Fallout, seems to be having a great time in Madrid. The catch is that the Spanish capital isn’t a vacation stop – it’s the staging ground for a John Wick-flavored shootout. The Alabama actor is in town to film a bloodbath that, by the sound of it, could be even more outrageous than Keanu Reeves’ mayhem.

Apparently, the world still wants more John Wick-style action. The success of Keanu Reeves’ saga, combined with the uncertainty over when the franchise will return, has pushed the industry to chase movies that can inherit the throne – or, more accurately, the box office momentum. One of those contenders is set to start filming very soon in Madrid, with Walton Goggins taking one of the headline roles after his high-profile return in Fallout.

The The White Lotus season three standout – from HBO Max’s sharply written satirical comedy-drama – is already in the Spanish capital, and has been praising the city and its people on Instagram. That postcard mood may not survive the moment production begins alongside Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass) on a project that’s being framed as a full-on bloodbath.

Another Former Hitman Haunted By His Past

Mister follows a man (Goggins) who wakes up in a strange house, drenched in blood. “Once he gets his memory back and pieces together who he really is, he has to face a past crawling with contract killers – including former partners and even his best friend. To get out alive, he links up with his estranged daughter (Moretz), who has also ended up in the family line of work, and the two will have to mend their relationship if they want to survive.”

It looks like an easy sell for John Wick fans not only because the premise is built for that kind of ballistic chaos, and not only because Goggins can shine in savage material, but also because it’s the next production from Thunder Road Films, one of the companies behind Reeves’ saga. In the director’s chair is a newcomer: Wade Eastwood, the action specialist credited with some of Tom Cruise’s most jaw-dropping sequences in the latest Mission: Impossible entries. It’s entirely possible Hollywood is looking for someone cut from the same cloth as Chad Stahelski or David Leitch. Let’s hope they’ve found that person.

Stahelski, meanwhile, is currently tied up with the Highlander reboot starring Henry Cavill. Once that finally arrives – still without a release date – he could return to the Wick universe for a fifth film, but nothing is guaranteed. Either way, the action genre keeps getting fresh projects, including one that will see Colin Farrell play a grumpy priest with a taste for violence, so fans should have plenty to dig into.
