MOVIE NEWS – Concert films have always had a place on the big screen, and the current renaissance is hardly surprising: it’s not only down to technical progress or the after-effects of the pandemic, but also to the fact that they offer a unique experience for both fans and performers.
After Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and Beyoncé’s Renaissance, the soon-to-open Stray Kids: The dominATE Experience is making waves, and Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) will also hit cinemas before long – uniquely co-directed by the singer herself and James Cameron (The Terminator, Avatar). Cameron has openly said he boarded the concert-film train so he could test the revolutionary visual techniques he has been developing for decades in this genre as well. That may explain why the film based on Billie Eilish’s August tour is arriving in May instead of the originally planned March. Cameron himself announced he is fine-tuning the footage, but says the wait will be worth it, because the production will deliver an experience beyond expectations.
