It’s one thing when a game receives good reviews from the press. But when the audience feels the same way, it’s worth paying attention to.
Resident Evil: Requiem was released on Friday for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. It’s no exaggeration to say that it was a huge success; critics and fans alike love the ninth installment of the franchise. More than 340,000 players jumped into Steam on Friday after its release (as we also reported in the news). Capcom has not yet released sales figures, but if you need further proof of the game’s success, check out Metacritic‘s ranking of the best games.
Resident Evil: Requiem is currently tied with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as the highest-rated game based on user scores. Both games have a user score of 9.5.
Resident Evil Requiem briefly surpassed Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but Clair Obscur returned and tied the score. As more people play the games and submit their scores to Metacritic, the two games will likely continue to swap places. However, the fact that the new Resident Evil game moved into second place, ahead of timeless classics such as Silent Hill 2, Chrono Trigger, Metal Gear Solid 3, and Disney’s Cory in the House, is no small feat.
Okay, Cory in the House is more of a meme and a joke than a serious game, but the fact that Capcom‘s game surpassed the others is impressive. It’s not every day that a new game is released that can immediately be considered one of the best in history. Only time will tell if Resident Evil Requiem and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will be able to keep up with these games. However, there’s no denying that Requiem is already in the running for Game of the Year 2026.
