Resident Evil Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi has officially confirmed that at least one story expansion is in development, while additional content has also come to light: a Photo Mode and a mysterious minigame are on their way in the coming months.
When a game leaves us wanting more, every story-related content expansion is welcome, and that is something Capcom has been cultivating for several years. Both Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village received expansions, each more significant and narratively decisive than the last, and after weeks of rumors surrounding a potential DLC run for Requiem, Koshi Nakanishi, the game’s director, has made it official: the Resident Evil 9 team is working on a story expansion.
The first rumors to circulate on the matter came, as ever, from DuskGolem. The insider, well regarded for his track record with the Capcom franchise, anticipated that the Japanese studio had greenlit post-launch content. While it was nothing more than rumor at the time, the leaker claimed that two DLCs were in development: the first centered on Alyssa Ashcroft, Grace’s mother, positioned as a bridge between this entry and Outbreak; while the second, and weightier, would star Leon as its protagonist.
Rumors, however, always warrant a degree of skepticism. Even so, we now finally have something concrete to hold onto: as noted, Nakanishi himself has confirmed at least one DLC is on the way. While it remains unclear whether either of the scenarios mentioned by DuskGolem is real, the director of this ninth mainline entry has made it clear that they will continue to explore the context of Requiem within the canon, meaning both of the insider’s ideas could slot in with ease.
Photo Mode, Stability Fixes, and a Mysterious Minigame Also on the Way
In the same video in which he thanked players and joked about Leon‘s wedding (one of the game’s most prominent fan theories, stemming from a piece of concept art and an engagement ring), the creative made it clear that there is still a great deal of work ahead. “We are working hard on it. It will take some time, so we ask for your patience and faith in what we are creating,” Nakanishi added.
As for the more immediate future of Requiem, the director confirmed that while the DLC will be the centerpiece of the post-launch content slate, the studio is also working on stability improvements and a Photo Mode set to arrive in the coming months, though no launch window was specified. Additionally, a May update is in the pipeline, and although its contents have not been disclosed, Nakanishi teased a minigame accompanied by a tongue-in-cheek image of Victor Gideon toying with viewers in the same way Lucas Baker did in Resident Evil 7. The specifics remain unknown, but it would certainly fit the character.
