According to a UK government registry, Ballistic Moon officially ceased operations on February 3, 2026. The studio released the Until Dawn remake a year and a half ago, a project most fans considered unnecessary, and laid off nearly its entire staff shortly after launch.
Were you surprised when a remake of Until Dawn launched at the end of 2024? Many people were, and although quite a few players took the opportunity to revisit this narrative horror game with improved graphics and new features alongside the Until Dawn film (the title also launched on PC for the first time), the general consensus among fans was that the original did not need to be remade. In any case, Ballistic Moon has now closed its doors for good.
Ballistic Moon Has Closed
Although Sony has not communicated it and the studio itself has not come out to confirm it, Ballistic Moon, the studio responsible for the Until Dawn remake, has closed definitively, at least according to a UK government registry (via PC Gamer). Despite the silence, the filing marks February 3, 2026 as the official closure date, as can be read in certain documents. The studio is gone, though the Until Dawn IP continues to belong to Sony.
The closure of Ballistic Moon is one more stone in a long list of misfortunes suffered by the British team. Back in September 2024, a month before the remake’s launch, the studio laid off the majority of its staff, raising doubts about post-launch support for the title, which debuted with some bugs that needed fixing. In December of that same year, a silent second round of layoffs took place that left the studio practically empty, with only its founders and “possibly” a “handful” of employees remaining.
Reports indicate that Ballistic Moon‘s executives had been seeking funding both before and after the studio’s closure, though it appears they were unsuccessful. In any case, most users believe the Until Dawn remake is worth playing if you enjoy decision-based interactive horror stories and have not played it before. The original game was playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility, and those who played it at the time find few reasons to buy it again at a higher price.
