Blight: Survival burst onto the scene in 2022, then fell almost entirely silent – until now. The medieval zombie survival game has hit 1.5 million wishlists on Steam, and developer Haenir Studio is celebrating with a new trailer and, finally, some real details about how the game actually plays.
Many games announce themselves with tremendous fanfare and then disappear, and that is exactly what happened with Blight: Survival. Developed by Haenir Studio with the support of Behaviour Interactive, known for Dead by Daylight, the game exploded onto the scene in 2022 with stunning visuals and a bold promise: raw combat and a brutal world. After years of near-silence, the studio confirmed in 2025 that the dream was still alive, and here is the result: 1.5 million players have added the game to their Steam wishlists, celebrated with a new trailer.
The game focuses on cooperative runs through zombie-infested medieval European territories, where players fight the undead and push for the best loot possible. According to its developers, “every combat or mission can end in disaster or become an opportunity to obtain valuable resources.”
It’s Co-op, but Blight: Survival Plays More Like Helldivers 2
Although the game incorporates extraction elements, its creators insist it is not a purely extraction-focused title. Rather than copying the formula of games centered exclusively on looting runs, the team drew inspiration from cooperative experiences where that mechanic forms part of the gameplay loop – “like Helldivers 2 or Deep Rock Galactic,” they cite. The idea is that players can choose to risk more for better rewards or pull out early to secure what they have already found.
The enormous interest generated by the game has brought a huge number of players to its doors, but it has also increased the pressure on the team. Following the viral success of the original 2022 trailer, creative director Ulrik Langvandsbråten decided to rebuild several fundamental systems from scratch alongside Behaviour Interactive, particularly on the cooperative side.
To ensure the final result meets expectations, the studio is already conducting small playtests with members of its community, which players can join via Discord. For now, Blight: Survival has no release date, and its creators have confirmed it will not arrive in 2026, though development continues.
