Battlefield Hardline: Its Online Mode Is Only Dying on PS4 and Xbox One

EA has confirmed that the game will shut down its servers on the previous console generation on June 22, 2026. The decision, however, does not affect the PC version.

PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players will soon lose access to the online features of Battlefield Hardline. Electronic Arts has announced that its more than ten-year-old title will shut down its servers on June 22, 2026 exclusively on old-gen consoles, which means the decision does not affect the PC version. As a result, console users will only be able to enjoy the Visceral Games shooter through its single-player campaign.

Electronic Arts shared the news through a post on X published via the Battlefield Comms account. Essentially, the company says it will gradually withdraw support for Battlefield Hardline over the coming weeks, and that process will begin on May 22, 2026 with the game’s removal from the PlayStation and Xbox digital storefronts. One month later, on June 22, the final server shutdown will take place.

The update does not come as much of a surprise. Battlefield Hardline no longer has anything close to its former popularity, and these days it can barely fill its servers with a few hundred players. According to SteamDB, the title only managed to reach a peak of 292 concurrent users on Valve’s platform, and that version did not even arrive on Steam until 2020, five years after its original release.

And the situation must have been even worse on PS4 and Xbox One, given that EA has chosen to pull the plug only on the console online features. In time, it would not be surprising to see a similar move hit the PC version as well.

Battlefield 6 Has Lost More Than 650,000 Players Since Launch

Right now, EA is focusing primarily on the more recent Battlefield 6. The game, besides serving as the latest entry in the shooter franchise, is also going through a major player bleed. After debuting in October 2025 with more than 747,000 concurrent users, community interest has fallen sharply, and the current figures are now hovering around 60,000 concurrent players, again according to SteamDB.

In fact, the title is currently running a free trial that ends on March 24, 2026 in an attempt to recover some of its initial momentum.
