Mike Flanagan Has Started Shooting His Brand-New Exorcist Film

MOVIE NEWS – Mike Flanagan is already filming his new exorcism movie, which still does not have an official title. The project is not a continuation of the last attempt, but a completely fresh take on the same iconic universe.

Mike Flanagan (Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep) has already begun shooting his new, still untitled exorcism film, which marks a return to the original source. In other words, it is not a continuation of David Gordon Green’s 2023 film The Exorcist: Believer. Universal and Blumhouse had originally planned a trilogy under Green’s direction, but Believer failed to live up to expectations, so the studios changed course. Flanagan’s project is completely original and approaches the material in a radically different way. Although it exists in the same universe as the 1973 classic, it is independent from the previous productions in both story and style.

In keeping with that approach, the stars of the original film, Linda Blair and Ellen Burstyn, will not return. The new cast is still extremely strong, though, with Scarlett Johansson, Carla Gugino, Diane Lane, John Leguizamo, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Laurence Fishburne leading the project.
