There is very little time left before the launch of Forza Horizon 6, the most promising entry in the racing franchise that has been one of Microsoft‘s flagship exclusives for several generations. Playground Games is back behind the wheel — the same studio currently developing the new Fable. And if you had any doubts about whether they’d manage to make the sixth installment technically accessible on PC, you can breathe easy: its requirements are about as inclusive as they come, though with a small caveat or two that won’t rule out the vast majority of machines.
It’s true that this racing franchise has never been brutally demanding in its PC incarnation, but with the advances in new graphical technologies, and in light of what we’ve seen in recent Xbox Developer Direct showcases, it’s only logical that Forza Horizon 6 wants to look really good. The subject matter demands it to a degree — every car has to look stunning, to say nothing of the setting, Japan — but Playground Games has kept players with modest rigs in mind.
Forza Horizon 6 Minimum and Recommended PC Requirements
Suffice to say that the minimum and recommended requirements for Forza Horizon 6 will be manageable for a good number of machines, and your rig doesn’t need to be the latest and greatest to run it. The figures published by the developers themselves make this clear:
| Component | Minimum | Recommended | Extreme | Extreme with Ray Tracing |
| CPU | Intel Core i5 8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 1600 | Intel Core i5 12400F / AMD Ryzen 5 5600X | Intel Core i7 12700K / AMD Ryzen 7 7700X | Intel Core i7 12700K / AMD Ryzen 7 7700X |
| GPU | Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 / AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT / Intel Arc A380 | Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti / AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT / Intel Arc A580 | Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti / AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT | Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti / AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT |
| RAM | 16 GB | 16 GB | 24 GB | 32 GB |
| Storage | SSD | SSD | SSD | SSD |
| Graphics preset | Low | Medium | High/Very High | Extreme (Ray Tracing enabled) |
| Recommended resolution | 1080p | 1440p (2K) | 4K | 4K upscaled to quality |
| FPS | 60 | >60 | >60 | >60 |
| Operating System | Windows 10/11, version 22H2 | Windows 10/11, version 22H2 | Windows 10/11, version 22H2 | Windows 10/11, version 22H2 |
It is true that getting the most out of the game will require a machine with a bit more horsepower, specifically if you want to enable Ray Tracing. However, if you can live without it, the game looks set to run on quite modest rigs — even at the recommended preset. The one unknown these requirements don’t yet answer is the storage space needed to install it. But if we go by what its predecessor — Forza Horizon 5 — required, don’t expect, barring a surprise, anything under 100 GB — a figure that’s becoming less and less frightening, since it’s rare for an open-world triple-A game not to hit triple digits in that department.
Forza Horizon 6 Compatible with Steam Deck from Day One
Beyond what you’ll need to run the game, Microsoft has also highlighted some of the features that PC players will get exclusively in that version. First, it has been confirmed that the game will be compatible with Nvidia‘s DLSS 4, AMD‘s FSR 3 and FSR 4, and Intel‘s XeSS 2.1 upscaling technologies. It will also be possible to unlock the frame rate cap, and the game will include support for ultrawide monitors. But without doubt, the standout feature among those already confirmed is that the game will be playable on Steam Deck from day one — as well as on the Xbox ROG Ally — so you’ll be able to keep racing on the go.
The game’s device support will also include steering wheels and driving simulation sets, as can be gathered from the requirements listing. Time to warm up the engines then for May 19 — or May 15 if you plan to pick up the Premium Edition, which lets you play four days ahead of the official launch.
