Owlcat Games has once again shown that it knows exactly how to time a reveal. The studio has built its CRPG reputation not only on strong protagonists, but also on its ability to give companions their own weight, personality, and presence. Now, while working on two separate Warhammer 40,000 projects at the same time, it has introduced two very different new faces on the same day. The catch is that one of them belongs to a role-playing game that still has not actually been released.
The first trailer focuses on Haymar Devos, who belongs to Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy. He is already available in the game’s ongoing alpha, meaning Owlcat is not just teasing him from a distance, but actively letting players get a taste of him before launch. Haymar comes from the Death World of Catachan and is presented as a highly lethal soldier who can handle both melee and ranged combat while also showing strong awareness of his surroundings. Even on paper, he sounds like the kind of companion who is meant to do more than simply fill out the roster.
Haymar Devos Is Already Part of the Alpha
With Dark Heresy, Owlcat is clearly trying to start building attachment to its cast long before release. Haymar is a strong piece of that strategy because he does not just fit the combat side of the game, but also the investigative, environment-reading side of the experience. His background makes that easy to sell. He comes from a world where almost everything is trying to kill you, which gives him the kind of hard-edged survivor profile that feels perfectly at home in a story shaped by the paranoia and brutality of the Inquisition.
What makes this especially interesting is that Dark Heresy still does not have a final release date. In other words, Owlcat is already using companions like Haymar to generate momentum for a game that is still on the way. Officially, the project remains in development and listed as coming soon, so Haymar is effectively a companion players can start recognizing now even though the full journey he belongs to has not yet properly arrived.
Eogunn Februs Is Headed to Rogue Trader’s Next DLC
The second new face is Eogunn Februs, who is not tied to an unreleased base game but to the third DLC for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. He will join the party in The Infinite Museion, and even from the first descriptions he does not sound like someone built for warmth or comfort. Eogunn is a Tech-Priest Manipulus and Genetor Extremis aligned with the Xenarite current inside the Adeptus Mechanicus, which immediately places him in the territory of forbidden knowledge, cold rationality, and unresolved secrets.
From a gameplay perspective, he also seems designed to bring a very different rhythm than Haymar. Where Haymar feels like a brutal frontline survivor, Eogunn comes from the technological and tactical side of the setting, and the early descriptions suggest he will not just add new story material but also shift the internal balance of the group itself. Rogue Trader has already shown a strong taste for memorable, ideologically charged companions, so Eogunn could easily become the kind of addition that reshapes both combat flow and party atmosphere.
What Owlcat is doing here is fairly clear. On one side, it is already building interest in the cast of Dark Heresy before that RPG has even launched. On the other, it is continuing to expand the world of Rogue Trader through upcoming DLC. One character is already playable in alpha, the other is still waiting inside a future expansion, but the shared idea is obvious: Owlcat knows how to make two separate Warhammer projects feel alive at the same time.
