One of the Worst-Kept Secrets in Gaming Is About to Become Fully Official

The Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake has been surrounded by so many leaks, semi-official hints, and accidental confirmations that at this point it would be harder to pretend anyone is still surprised by its existence. Ubisoft, however, has finally decided to stop dancing around it: on April 23, 2026, at 6:00 PM CEST, the company will air a dedicated Showcase for the game, which means Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced is only days away from a full public reveal.

Ubisoft did not even try to frame the announcement as some huge shock. In its X post, the company openly leaned into the fact that everybody already knew what was coming, and the teaser itself refers to the project as the worst-kept secret in video games. That pretty much sums up the current mood around it: the surprise factor is long dead, and what matters now is finally seeing what the remake actually looks like in motion.

The showcase will stream through Ubisoft’s official YouTube and Twitch channels, and the company listed the timing as 4 PM UTC, 6 PM CEST, and 9 AM PDT. So within days, players should finally get a proper look at what Ubisoft intends to improve, rebuild, or modernize in Edward Kenway’s pirate adventure compared with the 2013 original.

The Future of Assassin’s Creed

What makes the whole thing interesting is that Ubisoft appears to have decided there is no point running from the leaks anymore and is instead choosing to ride the attention they created. In that sense, the strategy may actually work. The surprise is gone, but the endless speculation and noise around the remake have done more than enough to push players back toward the idea of Black Flag returning. The Showcase is therefore not really about proving the game exists. It is about proving the remake is worth caring about.

It also fits into a much wider Ubisoft plan for the franchise. Earlier official messaging has already pointed toward Assassin’s Creed Hexe as a darker, more narrative-driven entry, while Codename Invictus remains in development as a PvP-focused project and Assassin’s Creed Jade is also part of the broader roadmap. In other words, the Black Flag Resynced reveal is not an isolated event. It is another visible move in Ubisoft’s larger Assassin’s Creed push.
