Spielberg Says You’ll Need a Seatbelt for His New Film

MOVIE NEWS – Audiences will need to make sure their seatbelts are fastened while watching the film – that is how Steven Spielberg introduced his new movie, Disclosure Day, at the CinemaCon industry event. The 79-year-old, three-time Oscar-winning director is returning to one of his favorite themes, but this time from a very different angle.

Half a century ago, in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, he showed how ordinary people react when they learn that extraterrestrials exist. Disclosure Day, however, is about the social shock that erupts when it turns out aliens have been here for quite some time, only governments kept it hidden from the public.

By joking about seatbelts, Spielberg was playfully suggesting that the film moves at a blistering pace, and that viewers will be left just as overwhelmed as the characters when they are suddenly confronted with this new reality.

The director also made sure to praise the distributor’s decision to give the film a proper theatrical runway. Universal is granting the movie a 45-day exclusive window in wide theatrical release before it hits streaming. “Or wait, what did I just hear, do we get 60 days?” Spielberg joked on stage at the end of the presentation.
