According to the director, Square Enix wants to build on the momentum of the recently released ports. This means that the end of the trilogy is getting close.
Although Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 hasn’t been officially announced, the final installment of the remake trilogy will likely be released soon. Director Naoki Hamaguchi recently confirmed to Nintendo Life that the team wants to capitalize on the momentum generated by the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series ports of the first two parts of the series.
“With large-scale titles like this one, it’s common for a long gap to exist between the first and second installments. However, since they were ports, we decided we could release them without much of a gap. We want to capitalize on this cadence and momentum to tie the experiences together without any gaps, from Remake to Rebirth and finally to the third installment that lies beyond them. We’re very excited about how the game is currently progressing. I have already completed over 40 full playthroughs! I can’t wait for as many people as possible to experience the game for themselves. My team and I are working hard to create an unforgettable gameplay experience,” said Hamaguchi when asked about the short time between the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth on the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series. This suggests that part three is not too far off in the future.
Although Hamaguchi didn’t reveal much about Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, his comments suggest that the game is fully playable and likely in the polishing phase. Since January 31 marks the 30th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII and the first two parts of the remake trilogy were released at the beginning of their respective release years, Remake in April and Rebirth in late February, it’s reasonable to assume that the as-yet-untitled game will follow a similar pattern.
Hopefully, the game and its release date will be announced during the upcoming “non-E3” season. We’ll also get a glimpse of how the Highwind airship’s gameplay will change the scope of the series.
