Windrose: Has It Even Surpassed Crimson Desert’s Sales?

Although this game is currently only available on PC, and is still in Early Access, it appears to be posting serious results. In April’s crowded field, it managed to stand out even next to several bigger names.

Several major games were released for PC and consoles in April. These include Pragmata, Saros, and Invincible Vs. According to Alinea Analytics data, only one of these games reached the top of the sales charts. Although Pragmata reportedly made it into the top five best-selling games on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox, the number one spot was claimed by the recently released pirate adventure game Windrose, while March’s Crimson Desert finished slightly behind in second place.

Despite being available only on Steam, Windrose was the best-selling game of the month across the three platforms mentioned. Since its Early Access release on April 17, it has sold 1.7 million copies, making it the month’s best-selling game, though it did not have a runaway lead. Crimson Desert continued its strong sales momentum and sold 1.6 million copies during the month, finishing directly behind Windrose, while EA Sports FC 26 took third place with 1.4 million copies sold.

Only then does Pragmata appear on the list in fourth place, as the only other game in the top five (alongside Windrose) that launched in April and made it into the top five best-selling games on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox. Slay the Spire 2 finished fifth. These figures are estimated sales numbers, and although Pragmata finished fourth on the chart, the game’s launch was extremely successful, as it reached 2 million copies sold this week when all platforms are taken into account.

It is worth noting that Nintendo Switch 2 sales are not included in this ranking, which slightly distorts Pragmata’s position. This does not mean that factoring in Switch 2 sales would have pushed Pragmata to first place, only that these figures do not provide the full picture. It will be interesting to see where Windrose ends up as the year progresses, and whether it becomes the latest Early Access favourite to conquer the world long before version 1.0 arrives…
