The Necromancer’s Tale: A Gothic RPG Coming to Consoles [VIDEO]

The game from Psychic Software and Silver Lining Interactive that transports us to an alternate history is getting a console port.

The Necromancer’s Tale is a story-rich, gothic RPG. Master the rituals of an ancient spellbook. Raise an army of the undead to march against your enemies. Commune with the realm of the dead, and grapple with your descent into madness. Progress through secrecy, diplomacy, blackmail, coercion, and seduction until you are ready to reveal yourself. Before you lies a great spellbook filled with powerful rites of death and reanimation. Can you decipher its pages and master its arcane rituals without losing your mind or being strung up by the townsfolk? Progressing will require great determination, cunning, and secrecy.

The Necromancer’s Tale is a story-rich game with 400,000 words of handwritten narrative and lore. You will converse with over 180 NPCs, each with their own hand-drawn portrait (we did not use generative AI for the game). You will investigate, negotiate, coerce, and flatter to further your goals. The game’s Trust system means that your choices – even in conversation – really matter. If the townsfolk’s trust in you drops too low, your choices will be affected. If it drops further, you will be tried in court and hanged or lynched by a frenzied mob. You will create your character through an interactive, fully voiced backstory that defines your gender, early life, skills, and career path (military, diplomatic, or academic). These choices affect narrative options during the main game.

The game involves tactical, turn-based combat between you, your allies, and your undead minions versus a variety of natural and supernatural enemies. Defeat your foes by harnessing a variety of weapons, rituals, and battle spells. The Necromancer’s Tale is set in an alternative-history kingdom near Venice and the Adriatic Sea in 1733. It is a time at the cusp of rational thought and superstition, science and magic. The world is dark and dangerous, where courtly intrigue collides with black magic as chemistry emerges from alchemy. Depending on how much side content and world exploration you engage with and whether you play the battles or use automatic combat resolution, a playthrough will take between 25 and 50 hours. There are multiple endings through which you can see the consequences of your choices play out in the future.

The Necromancer’s Tale was released for PC on July 17 last year. The PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2 ports are set to arrive on June 24 of this year.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
