Fairgame$: Is Sony’s Long-Announced Game Getting A New Name?

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s recent actions in several regions have really caught our attention.

On May 20, just two days ago, SIE filed a trademark application for the name “Break In” in the United States and Europe. Due to the nature of the trademark, there is speculation that it is a rebranding of Fairgame$, a competitive heist game announced in May 2023 by SIE subsidiary Haven Entertainment Studios.

Jade Raymond, the producer of the first Assassin’s Creed installment and the executive producer of the second, was previously linked to this studio. She then played a key role in launching Motive Studio at Electronic Arts and led Google’s ill-fated foray into the gaming industry as the head of Stadia Games & Entertainment. In 2021, she moved to Sony, where Haven Studios was established. However, she left Haven (and as such, Sony) last May.

On ResetEra, Jason Schreier, a Bloomberg editor known for reporting on leaked information, wrote “Br€ak In,” suggesting that the trademark is indeed linked to Fairgame$. It would be another game in Sony’s expansion into live services. In this genre, the company has failed miserably thus far, as its own developments have not achieved much success. Concord – need we say more?

SIE also announced a State of Play for June 2, which we’ll cover today. It’s possible the game will be showcased again at State of Play, and if it has a new name, it could mean the project has been rebooted. It’s possible Jade Raymond left the studio she founded for this reason.

Another indication that the game will appear at State of Play is that PlayBreakIn accounts were recently created on Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Reddit. The Twitter account is based in Canada, where Haven Entertainment Studios is headquartered.

Anikó, our news editor and communication manager, is more interested in the business side of the gaming industry. She worked at banks, and she has a vast knowledge of business life. Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
