Chinese Memory Is Already Gaining Traction In The West: Corsair Is One Of Its Clients!

TECH NEWS – Corsair’s DDR5 modules use CXMT DRAM, and this is likely just the beginning.

Chinese memory has apparently already reached global manufacturers, as Corsair’s DDR5 modules contain CXMT DRAM. There has been a lot of talk about CXMT and YMTC flooding the global market with DRAM and NAND chips because the AI supercycle has resulted in a tight supply chain for mass-market memory and solid-state drives (SSDs). Earlier reports indicated that major PC manufacturers were exploring the use of Chinese memory due to the shortage. It appears that Corsair is the first to do so.

@wxnod posted photos on Twitter suggesting that Corsair uses CXMT DRAM in its DDR5 memory modules. Corsair is one of the leading U.S. PC component manufacturers, including in the memory module sector. Like every other PC manufacturer, Corsair is facing a tight DRAM supply as Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix have focused most of their production on the DRAM solutions required for AI, such as HBM and LPDDR5X. This leaves little to no room for PC manufacturers and distributors to source memory. However, CXMT has doubled its DDR5 DRAM production efforts and accelerated its development to catch up with the three DRAM giants. The company already offers speeds of up to 8,000 MT/s, as well as DRAM chips with 16 Gb and 24 Gb capacities. Meanwhile, other Chinese DRAM manufacturers, such as Jiahe Jinwei, are racing to ramp up production of DDR5 RDIMMs, which are used in data centers and workstations.

The Corsair DDR5 memory module pictured has a 16 GB capacity, a 6000 MT/s speed, and the part number CMK5X16G3E60C36A2-CN. It is part of Corsair’s Gaming Vengeance product line and features a 1.1-1.35 V design. It supports both AMD EXPO and Intel XMP. Its CL36 timings match those offered by standard Samsung/SK Hynix A-Die-based Vengeance kits with the same specifications. Most importantly, ChangXin Technologies (CXMT) is the DRAM manufacturer. There are several reasons why Corsair chose CXMT over its usual partners, Samsung and SK Hynix. The aforementioned shortages are the primary reason, and cost is another factor.

Chinese companies are increasing their memory production capacity to such an extent this year that they can meet their own domestic demand and offer foreign PC manufacturers a cheaper, similarly specified alternative. Both CXMT and YMTC are doubling their wafer production capacity as part of an ongoing “Epic Expansion” initiative. As the memory crisis worsens and the pressure on Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron mounts, Chinese manufacturers are filling the gaps and already seeing increased revenue.
