TECH NEWS – Valve’s device is close to being unveiled, and Gabe Newell and his team are likely to announce a price tag that will not please us.
Previous reports suggested that the Steam Machine would be released soon. However, the latest update to Steam’s backend includes a “Welcome Tour” for the device, which may reveal Valve’s planned release date. Brad Lynch posted a video of the Welcome Tour on Twitter. It walks players through the initial setup of the Steam Machine and the first firmware update for the Steam Controller.

For reference: Valve added the Steam Controller welcome tour to the Steam backend on April 1, and announced the controller’s price and availability just over a month later. If Valve sticks to the same schedule, the Steam Machine could launch in early July. However, Valve has made it clear that it has little control over the factors hindering the Steam Machine’s release.
If Valve’s previous statements about the price of the Steam Machine are to be believed, the company led by Gabe Newell will launch the hardware either when it can do so affordably, or when it can no longer wait for that opportunity. Since the device has already been delayed by several months, we are undoubtedly in the final stretch.
The Steam Machine will either achieve great success due to its affordable price or be slow to sell due to an excessively high price tag. Price hikes are guaranteed. The OLED model of the Steam Deck is incredibly expensive with 1 TB of storage. Since the Steam Machine also uses DRAM and an SSD, it will certainly be more expensive than originally planned.
We believe it will definitely cost more than $1,000 (€1,000). Though, it is possible we are overestimating the costs.
