Many rumors have circulated about God of War in the past, but few have turned out to be true. Maybe this time will be different.
Rumors about a Faye God of War spin-off have heated up again ahead of Sony’s June 2 State of Play. An insider known as AlexandreNGamR claims that the event’s big announcement will be the long-rumored Faye game. The insider made this claim in a brief Twitter reply to a conversation about a major reveal expected at State of Play, saying, “It’s the Faye game.”
It’s the Faye game.

According to Sony, the broadcast will begin with a more detailed look at Marvel’s Wolverine. The Faye rumor has been circulating for months. Earlier this month, we heard that the God of War Faye spin-off might be revealed soon, with leakers pointing to a PlayStation event in May or early June. Earlier rumors suggested that Faye could be the playable protagonist in the next main God of War game and that the game would emphasize faster, more action-oriented combat. This would represent a significant departure from the slower, more serious-toned Scandinavian games. Another rumor suggests that the next God of War title will feature multiple mythologies, including Chinese and Japanese elements. If true, Sony could use Faye to take the series in a direction the Kratos-led games have not yet ventured.
Faye is the wife of Kratos, a Norse mythological figure, and the mother of Atreus. She plays a central role in the 2018 God of War, though she is primarily seen through memories, prophecies, and the stories of other characters. A game starring her alone would finally take players to a part of the story that Santa Monica has mostly kept off-screen so far. This could work, but it also carries risks. Faye is important because she means a lot to Kratos and Atreus; she is not important simply because players have already spent 40 hours controlling her. Sony would need to show actual gameplay, not just the logo and a dramatic bow-drawing sequence. The concept would need to prove itself under pressure.
The timing would also make sense for the franchise. Sony previously announced the God of War Greek trilogy remakes at a State of Play event, and God of War: Ghost of Sparta was released around the same time. Clearly, Sony has no problem using State of Play to share God of War-related news.
