Xbox Game Studios and inXile Entertainment have announced that Clockwork Revolution will launch in 2027 for Xbox Series and PC. The first-person RPG will be an Xbox console exclusive, while the PC version will be available via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
Clockwork Revolution finally has a release year: inXile Entertainment’s time-bending steampunk RPG is coming to Xbox Series and PC in 2027. Publisher Xbox Game Studios has also confirmed that the game will be an Xbox console exclusive, so there is currently no PlayStation or Nintendo version attached to the announcement. On PC, it will launch through Steam and the Microsoft Store.
The game centers on Avalon, a vibrant Victorian-era steampunk metropolis whose past and future are not as fixed as they appear. Players step into the role of Morgan Vanette, a fully customizable character and member of the Rotten Row Hooligans. Morgan gains access to a remarkable device that makes it possible to travel back in time, interfere with the past, and rewrite the future of the city they call home.
The main antagonist is Lady Ironwood, who does not rule Avalon as a simple tyrant. She has been manipulating time itself to keep the working class trapped in hardship while accumulating enormous wealth and power. That gives Clockwork Revolution more than a simple time-travel hook: this is an RPG built around industrial rot, class warfare, and occult machinery, all wrapped inside a dangerous, unpredictable, darkly funny city. Avalon is not clean steampunk wallpaper. It is a place that will remember what the player does to it.
The Past Changes, and Avalon Warps With It
According to inXile’s concept, player choices will have a real butterfly effect. When Morgan changes something in the past, the consequences can appear in the present through altered characters, events, storefronts, districts, and even the city itself. The promise is not just that a few dialogue lines will shift. Avalon is meant to react to the way the player interferes with history.
The role-playing layer begins with character creation and progression. Morgan can be built from the ground up, then specialized through gear, attributes, and skills. Depending on the player’s choices, they may hack hostile automaton robots, craft elaborate steampunk weapons and gadgets, or turn time itself into a combat and narrative advantage. That system could become especially interesting if mechanical builds and narrative consequences are not separated, but instead work together to reshape Avalon’s future.
The city’s visual identity is built around that exaggerated mechanical society. Automaton robots patrol the streets, wealthy citizens replace their limbs with ornate clockwork prosthetics, steam trains fly overhead, and mechanical servants fulfill every whim of their masters. Underneath all that polish sits exploitation, social pressure, and the central question of whether a city can really be saved by repeatedly rewriting its past.
InXile’s RPG Could Become One of Xbox’s Key 2027 Games
One of the most interesting promises behind Clockwork Revolution is that Avalon is not merely a backdrop for the story, but a reactive, narrative-driven space. Players will meet characters who may betray them, challenge them, or make uncomfortable amounts of sense even when they stand on the other side. The game’s darkly comic tone will only work if inXile does more than borrow steampunk aesthetics and actually leans into the social and political tensions that make the setting matter.
The 2027 release window also shows that one of Xbox Game Studios’ more distinctive internal RPG projects is still some distance away, but no longer floating without any timeframe at all. A specific date has not been announced, and it remains unclear when a longer gameplay presentation will arrive. What is already clear is that Clockwork Revolution could become one of Xbox’s stranger and more important 2027 releases: time travel, class conflict, a steampunk metropolis, and a world that can be visibly rewritten by player decisions, all in one RPG.
