MOVIE NEWS – Auliʻi Cravalho, best known to Disney fans as the voice of Moana, is stepping into a major DC role. The actress will voice Jessica Cruz in Season 3 of My Adventures with Superman, before the character moves on to lead the upcoming spin-off My Adventures with Green Lantern.
2026 is shaping up to be a big summer for Green Lantern. Lanterns is set to debut on HBO in August, with Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre taking on the roles of Hal Jordan and John Stewart, respectively. Before that series arrives, however, another corner of the DC multiverse is preparing to introduce its own Green Lantern: Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Auliʻi Cravalho has joined the cast of My Adventures with Superman. Cravalho will play Jessica Cruz, who is set to become a Green Lantern, and this version of the character is being reimagined as a teenager.
Cravalho will make her debut as Jessica Cruz in Season 3, episode 2, before taking the lead in the spin-off My Adventures with Green Lantern. Jake Wyatt, showrunner on My Adventures with Superman and the upcoming My Adventures with Green Lantern, said Cravalho’s audition immediately stood out from the rest. “Casting brought us a lot of fantastic reads for Jessica. But when I heard Auli’i, there was this complexity of emotion to her read – a natural, almost oblivious charm that she brought to Jess – and I knew she was the one. But I hadn’t even looked at the name, I just ran out of my office like, ‘Have ya’ll heard this take??’ Then Stephanie [Gonzaga] and Karen [Graci] told me that it was Auli’i, that she was already a princess, how she’d done brilliant work with Karen on a previous show, and that was that,” Wyatt said.
Jessica Cruz is DC Comics’ first human female Green Lantern. She was teased in Green Lantern #20 in 2013 before making her first full appearance in Justice League #31 in 2014. Despite being a relatively recent addition to DC history, the character has already appeared in several animated projects. Myrna Velasco voiced her in DC Super Hero Girls, Diane Guerrero voiced Jessica Cruz in the 2019 animated film Justice League vs. the Fatal Five, and Dascha Polanco voiced the character in the 2022 animated movie DC League of Super-Pets.
Cravalho rose to prominence through her vocal performance as Moana in the hit Disney film. She reprised the role in Moana 2 and also appeared in a cameo in Ralph Breaks the Internet. In 2024, she played Janis in Mean Girls, while her strong singing voice has also helped her build an impressive theater résumé, with credits including Sunset Boulevard, Evita, Children of Eden, and Cabaret.
My Adventures with Superman Season 3 debuted on Cartoon Network and HBO Max on June 14, and the series currently holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Wyatt said Jessica Cruz’s introduction was designed to connect with Supergirl’s impact on the show’s world, especially in the second episode. “We’d already planned for the second episode to showcase how Supergirl [Kiana Madeira], in particular, was changing their world. We wanted to look at how different people had very different reactions to the same Kryptonian. So when word came down from the brass that Green Lantern was greenlit, we wanted our pre-Lantern Jessica Cruz to give us the girl-on-the-street view of Supergirl. How would a shy, relatively powerless teenager see this powerful, young super-woman out there changing the world? And what would it be like for Supergirl to see herself through Jess’s eyes?” Wyatt explained.
My Adventures with Green Lantern was announced in February 2025. The series will follow Jessica Cruz after a Green Lantern Power Ring falls from the sky and chooses her as its wielder. Cruz later discovers that a crashed alien warship has also unleashed a wide range of enemies she must face, even as she struggles with her own insecurities. Wyatt had previously said that the spin-off had not yet received an official season order, but with a Disney star now voicing the lead character, its chances may look a little brighter.
