Of course, the question is whether Sony will tolerate this, especially since the emulated console is about to turn 13.
PlayStation 4 emulation on PC using the ShadPS4 emulator could reach new heights in the near future. The developers of the emulator, who made playing Bloodborne on a PC with enhanced graphics and better performance possible, have unveiled ShadNet. This open-source infrastructure project is designed to allow users to play online multiplayer games.
“ShadNet will allow ShadPS4 users to connect and play online games together. This project has been in development for a few months, and it’s now at a stage where we can officially announce it. ShadNet is still in development, and there is still a lot to be done, but it’s ready for testing. Currently, only the score tracking feature is operational, but please feel free to give it a try!”, the announcement on the official ShadPS4 website reads.
Although account registration is available, the ShadNet launcher is not. Nevertheless, this is an impressive development considering that, just two years ago, the ShadPS4 emulator could barely run FromSoftware’s game, which remains a PlayStation 4 exclusive for reasons that are still unclear. With ShadNet, not only will we be able to enjoy FromSoftware’s action RPG with the full range of multiplayer features, but we will also be able to play numerous other games online as if we had a PlayStation Plus subscription and were playing on a real console. This could prompt Sony to take action, given that the company is striving to maximize revenue from its subscription service. However, since Sony hasn’t taken any steps against the ShadPS4 emulator so far, who knows?
The ShadPS4 team was very active in June. At the beginning of the month, the team released version 0.16.0 of the emulator, the biggest update to date. It introduced a new configuration system that simplifies settings management and added support for local multiplayer. The update also improved Vulkan stability and expanded Neo GPU instructions to enhance compatibility with games that use PlayStation 4 Pro features.
