MOVIE NEWS – Anne Hathaway’s new sci-fi adventure The End of Oak Street debuted with an 84% Rotten Tomatoes score. Early reviewers are calling it one of the most entertaining dinosaur movies in years.

The story centers on the Platt family after a mysterious cosmic event tears their entire neighborhood out of suburbia and drops it into an unfamiliar realm populated by prehistoric creatures. Surviving the crisis forces the family to confront its own tensions while dinosaurs invade streets that were ordinary only moments earlier.

The first wave of reviews is notably strong. With 31 verdicts counted, the film stands at 84%, and several critics have highlighted its playful energy and affection for the Amblin adventures of the 1980s. Director David Robert Mitchell combines large-scale spectacle with a domestic drama instead of treating the creatures as the only attraction.

Supportive reviews also argue that the movie has more emotional weight and personality than its outrageous premise might suggest. A smaller group of critics found it derivative or dramatically thin, yet those reservations have not prevented the overall reception from remaining firmly positive.

Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor fight to keep the family alive

Hathaway stars opposite Ewan McGregor, with Maisy Stella and Christian Convery playing the younger members of the Platt household. David Robert Mitchell, the filmmaker behind It Follows and Under the Silver Lake, wrote and directed the project, while J. J. Abrams and Bad Robot served among its producers.

The End of Oak Street opens in the United States on August 14, 2026, and runs for roughly 100 minutes. Judging by its early critical momentum, the dinosaur adventure could become one of the summer’s more unexpected crowd-pleasers.
