Nintendo Switch 2 Is Getting More Expensive in One Country – 70 Million People Are Affected

The Nintendo Switch 2 price increase is now reaching another country with a population of roughly 70 million. Nintendo had not provided a local figure in its earlier announcement, but the console’s price will not remain unchanged in this market after all.

In May, Nintendo announced higher Switch 2 prices for the United States, Canada, Japan and European countries using the euro. The United Kingdom was missing from the detailed list because the company did not provide an amount in pounds sterling at the time.

The price rises by £24 in September

Nintendo has now confirmed that the Switch 2 will move from £395.99 to £419.99 in the United Kingdom. The £24 increase takes effect on September 1 and is proportionally a little smaller than the changes announced in several other regions.

For comparison, the console is going up by 10,000 yen in Japan, $50 in the United States and Canada, and €30 in the eurozone. British players are therefore not escaping the international price-hike wave, although the local increase is one of the more restrained among the markets listed so far.

Nintendo points to market conditions

The Japanese company blames higher manufacturing, distribution and component costs, together with broader changes in international market conditions. Sony and Microsoft used similar arguments when adjusting the prices of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S hardware.

Industry forecasts suggest that component shortages and high costs could continue to have an impact beyond 2030. Nintendo’s response is to strengthen the Switch 2’s value with a robust line-up of games, while acknowledging that the latest price increase still does not cover the full rise in the company’s expenses.
