God Save Birmingham Is Getting Co-op Mode [VIDEO]

Ocean Drive Studio has confirmed that a cooperative mode is being developed for God Save Birmingham. The open-world zombie survival game set in medieval England will let players face the collapse of Birmingham alongside their friends.

The ability to gather food, cook, build shelter and fight the undead with other people was one of the community’s most frequent requests. The developers are now creating a co-op system designed not only to make survival more manageable, but also to produce unpredictable and often hilarious situations.

The physics will not spare your friends

The new trailer shows partners helping one another reach difficult locations and move useful resources. The same physical systems can quickly turn against the group, however, such as when one player moves a ladder while somebody else is still climbing it and causes a spectacular accident.

Cooperation will therefore involve much more than fighting side by side, extending to the game’s survival mechanics and the manipulation of its environment. Ocean Drive Studio wants players to experiment with Birmingham’s objects and limits while dealing with the direct consequences their decisions create for the rest of the group.

Several testing stages will come first

The mode still requires additional tuning, so a small Core Group Test will begin with people who participated in the alpha and pre-alpha periods. A broader beta will follow later, allowing more fans to experience the co-op system before its full implementation.

Co-op topped the wish list assembled after the closed beta alongside a proper save system. The studio is also improving combat, physics, controls and survival mechanics while preparing new characters, weapons and zombies for an early-access period expected to last several years.
