Hidetaka Miyazaki says The Duskbloods will have storytelling depth comparable to FromSoftware’s previous games. Despite its multiplayer structure, the final release is being built around substantial character histories and the kind of dense lore associated with the studio.

The Duskbloods’ public test contained few explicit story elements, prompting concerns that the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive might be a lighter side project from a narrative perspective. Speaking at a press event in Japan, Miyazaki stressed that the full game is placing considerable emphasis on its world and the people who inhabit it.

Character histories will connect each battle

Every playable character will have an individual personality, past and storyline, as well as a house and a world of their own. Players will uncover those details over time, while sigils connect the cast through relationships based on love, revenge or camaraderie.

Miyazaki says the amount of lore text in The Duskbloods can be compared with FromSoftware’s earlier titles. The way that information is delivered will be different, however, because the bonds between characters are designed to unfold across multiplayer encounters and develop from one battle to the next.

It is not copying Nightreign’s narrative structure

FromSoftware is not simply reusing Elden Ring Nightreign’s approach to storytelling. Producer Yasuhiro Kitao explained that the main lesson carried over from that project was how to build a reliable online system, while The Duskbloods’ narrative ideas are being developed on their own terms.

An upcoming network test will let a limited number of players try FromSoftware’s new PvPvE action RPG for free. The full game is being developed exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2, with battles for up to eight participants forming the foundation of a mysterious world shaped by blood and intertwined destinies.
