Kojima Turned 63, and Game Development Is Still His Whole World! [VIDEO]

The Japanese genius plans to continue doing this for as long as he is able—and hopefully that will be for a long time.

As he celebrates his 63rd birthday, Hideo Kojima, the former director of the Metal Gear franchise and current director of Death Stranding, has stated that he wants to continue focusing on making games. On Twitter, Kojima reflected on his time developing games, writing:

“I turned 63. As I get older, the things I ‘have to do’ and the things I ‘want to do’ continue to increase. At the same time, the time I have to do them continues to decrease. I constantly need to reassess how I use my time and how I live my life. That said, once you’ve taken something on, you can’t simply put it down and walk away. This year marks the 40th anniversary of my first game creation and the 10th anniversary of Kojima Productions’ founding. From the end of October through the end of the year, we are planning to hold the Kojima Productions 10^(th) Anniversary Exhibition at the Azabudai Hills Gallery. The Ludens statue at the entrance has been replaced with the 10th Anniversary Ludens version. While I continue to receive various opportunities and offers, I would like to remain focused on creating games. Thank you for your continued support,” Kojima wrote.

Before founding Kojima Productions, Hideo Kojima made a name for himself at Konami, where he led the original team in developing the Metal Gear Solid series. However, over the past decade, his work on Death Stranding and his relationships with Hollywood celebrities have brought him into the spotlight. During this time, many have speculated that the director might turn away from video games to focus on other projects. Kojima’s next game, OD, is a mysterious horror title that will be published by Microsoft. Unveiled last September, OD is described as a new kind of gaming experience. Kojima is collaborating with filmmaker Jordan Peele on OD, and the game’s main characters will be played by Hunter Schafer, Udo Kier, and Sophia Lillis.

After that, Kojima plans to work on Physint, a stealth game. Kojima Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the project in 2024, describing it as a new IP and a next-generation action-spy game. Last year, this was followed by a key visual and a small cast announcement confirming that Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe will play the lead roles.
