A Release Year Has Been Announced for The Witcher IV! [VIDEO]

CD Projekt RED has announced the release date for the latest installment of the franchise on most current-gen platforms and PC.

The latest installment of The Witcher is one of the Polish team’s major projects. A remake of the first game is also in the works, as is the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, but The Witcher IV will be the first of these to be released. Michael Nowakowski revealed the release year in the video below, which came as quite a surprise:

“I wanted to invite you to watch Opening Night Live on August 26 and come visit us on the Gamescom show floor. We’re going big this year with something very special: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past. We have a lot of the expansion to show off, including a taste of its dark story and the new content it will bring. Join us at Gamescom, where we have a huge booth in Hall 8 and a team ready to give you the first full look at Songs of the Past. Make sure to tune into special RED streams each day when they go live. We might even have a surprise or two to share.

Of course, much more is happening in the world of The Witcher. Our team at CD Projekt Red HQ is working hard on a brand new saga with Ciri at the helm. More than 500 of our most talented developers are working to create something special for you. The Witcher IV features an enormous, immersive open world; intense, action-packed gameplay; and a deep, impactful story that we hope will stick with you for a long time. Simply put, this is our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game yet.

I know you’re eager to learn the date. It’s the question we hear from you all the time. While we won’t be showing The Witcher IV at the event, and we’re not ready to share an exact date, I can tell you this: The Witcher IV is targeting a release window of 2028. I know it’s a long wait, and you’d love to play it sooner, but trust the team. It will be worth the wait. In the meantime, there will be plenty more of The Witcher, including Songs of the Past, which is launching in 2027. You can also be sure that Gamescom is in our plans for the coming years. See you on the path!”, Nowakowski said.

The Witcher IV is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC in 2028. However, we believe they are also developing it for next-gen platforms.
