With so many major releases scheduled for September, it’s no wonder that Frozenbyte and Cooldown Games made this decision.

The developer and publisher announced that the side-scrolling puzzle platformer, which is growing into a major franchise (this is the sixth installment in the Trine series, after all), was originally scheduled for release on September 17. However, common sense prevailed, and the release date was pushed back to 2027. The reasoning behind the delay is standard, but let’s hear from Frozenbyte and Cooldown Games:

“Thank you to everyone who signed up for, played, and shared feedback during our recent private playtest. With your help, we now have a much clearer picture of what’s working and where Trine 6 has room to improve. We will take some extra time to add a whole new way to experience puzzles throughout the game, give our heroes more opportunities to shine, and improve combat, camera behavior, onboarding, and online multiplayer systems. We know this means waiting a little longer, but we’re confident that the extra time will allow us to act on the feedback we received and ultimately create a better adventure for longtime fans, players discovering Trine for the first time, and everyone in between,” the message reads.

Trine 6: Together in Time has been accompanied by two trailers (viewable below) and will be released on March 4 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Won’t the Nintendo Switch hold back the other ports? After all, the other platforms are all current generation, and in terms of performance, the 2017 handheld is already far behind the other devices.

We have one final question: Is a delay of nearly six months too much? Oh well, maybe the quality will make up for it in the end.
