Hogwarts Legacy Has Generated More Than $2 Billion – and the Sequel Is Already in Development

Hogwarts Legacy has generated more than $2 billion and sold over 40 million copies. WB Games is already actively developing a sequel.

Released in 2023, Hogwarts Legacy has become one of the most successful video games of recent years and one of the biggest products in the Harry Potter universe. The latest figure indicates that Avalanche Software’s open-world RPG has crossed the $2 billion revenue mark.

The total was listed by former WB Games marketing manager Chandler Wood on LinkedIn. It aligns with the game’s sales performance: more than 40 million copies have now been sold worldwide.

The achievement is particularly significant because most earlier Harry Potter games were direct movie tie-ins. Hogwarts Legacy instead offered an original story, an explorable Hogwarts, and a personalized wizarding adventure, allowing it to reach a large audience beyond readers and film fans.

Warner Bros. Games has already confirmed that a sequel is in active development. The publisher has not announced a release date or detailed gameplay information, but the first game’s results make the project one of the company’s most valuable upcoming releases.

Expectations for the follow-up are also high because fans have asked for deeper school systems, stronger RPG mechanics, and more meaningful consequences. An official reveal could potentially coincide with HBO’s new Harry Potter series, although WB Games has not confirmed such a plan.
