Final Fantasy VII Revelation: Vincent and Cid May Steal the Spotlight from Cloud

The finale of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy is shaping up to be far more than a routine sequel, with new playable heroes, a flexible Job system, and a fully controllable Highwind transforming the adventure.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation picks up directly after Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but the concluding chapter finally assembles the entire party. Vincent Valentine and Cid join the playable roster, and the Gamescom demonstration even placed Cloud on the sidelines while Barret, Red XIII, Cait Sith, Cid, and Yuffie took centre stage.

These newcomers are not simple additions to the character menu. Vincent is so fast, polished, and mechanically distinctive that Square Enix reportedly worries players may want to control nobody else. Carefully timed inputs let him chain attacks before transforming into a beast, while Cid fights at mid-range and can mark targets with his spear.

Classic Jobs return with a modern twist

Every party member can now adopt Jobs alongside the abilities established in the earlier games. Warrior, Summoner, and Black Mage are more than passive statistical templates: each brings dedicated commands and tactical options. Combat style and costume can also be selected independently, and the unique Job outfits remain visible during cinematics.

The Highwind has become a vehicle rather than a glorified fast-travel menu. Players can pilot it across the map, choose where to parachute, and even land directly on a chocobo without interruptions or loading screens. Denser regions, a grappling gun, and faster chocobo navigation should make the expanded open world more rewarding to traverse.

Another layer for an already deep combat system

Jobs add fresh complexity to the blend of real-time action and command-based combat. Summoners can channel summon abilities without waiting for the traditional gauge, Black Mages imbue attacks with elemental damage, and Warriors protect nearby companions. Character-and-Job synergies promise further room for experimentation.

The technical upgrade is equally noticeable, particularly in character models and environments, although the preview build still struggled during some of its busiest effects-heavy sequences. Square Enix has until the planned April 8, 2027 release to optimise it. On this evidence, the trilogy’s finale could become its most ambitious instalment both narratively and mechanically.
