There Won't Be Any More Diablo IV Expansions—Just a Switch 2 Port Is Coming!

Since Diablo V has already been announced, as reported in today’s news, it makes sense that Blizzard is starting to focus on it.

At BlizzCon, Blizzard announced that the story of Diablo V will take place a century after Diablo IV in a Sanctuary conquered by Diablo, the Lord of Fear. However, that won’t happen until 2029. Until then, Blizzard will continue the story of Diablo IV through seasons. Currently, there are no plans for additional expansions to the game. Even though there are currently no plans for additional expansions, the story of Diablo IV isn’t over yet. Given the premise of Diablo V, Blizzard must bring about the apocalypse. It seems we’ll see how that plays out in the coming seasons. Nothing is set in stone, though. As long as people are playing it, support for Diablo IV won’t end, and the ongoing support for Diablo II: Resurrected, which received a new class this year, could serve as a model. Thus, Blizzard seems committed to the entire Diablo universe.

“We’re all focused on Diablo IV seasons and moving on to Diablo V. We feel like we’ve told the story of Hatred. We had a great conclusion with the Lord of Hatred, Mephisto. Now, we’re moving towards telling the story of terror. The events of Diablo V take place 100 years after the events of Diablo IV, which gives us a lot of room to ride the wave with fans and see where the story goes as we make our way there. We’re really excited about continuity, but we don’t have a clear idea of where it’s going because we want to see how fans react season to season. I think you can expect that. Diablo IV players love the game; there are tons of them out there. We’re continuing to support the game for a very long time,” said Diablo game director Brent Gibson.

The exact form of this support is unclear, but Diablo V is still far off. It seems likely that the plans will be shaped by player feedback. Diablo III won’t necessarily serve as a template, but it’s currently stuck in a time loop, repeatedly offering its best seasons. In the meantime, the Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 15 for $70 USD/€70.
