Did Ubisoft drop Prince of Persia in the background?

There’s another interesting rumor in regards to Ubisoft. Earlier today we wrote about how there’s a possibility of not seeing a main Assassin’s Creed installment in 2016 – the fall season would have Watch Dogs 2 instead while the AC franchise goes into a Witcherish revamp in an Egyptian setting in 2017 under Assassin’s Creed Empire. But what about Prince of Persia, another franchise that was widely popular a decade ago?

The same person who was responsible for the previous rumor talked about it. He says we should forget Prince of Persia as Ubisoft won’t develop any more new games. Ubisoft doesn’t own the PoP license. Therefore, they’d have to pay each time they create a new game. This is why Ubisoft created Assassin’s Creed, so they don’t have to pay a different company for a license. Prince of Persia wasn’t financially worth for them. (What a shame…)

We looked up who owns the license at the moment: Prince of Persia is currently owned by Waterwheel Licensing Company. However, remember Ubisoft‘s boss Yves Guillermot’s comment from 2014: they don’t plan to give up on PoP.

Maybe if Vivendi buys them entirely – it’s possible: they raised their stake in Ubisoft multiple times last year -, they would get enough money to get a new game on board!
