Gran Turismo’s father believes there’s still a long way to improving the virtual reality technology.
Yamauchi told VentureBeat the following: „The first head-mounted display was created before I was born, around 1962. I’ve been waiting for more than 50 years. After all that time, I’d hoped it would be something more incredible than it is today.”
He added that Polyphony Digital had worked hard on Gran Turismo Sport’s VR-support, saying that it will be a good product in the end. He added that they’d done their best with what they currently have.
„Once we get to dual 8K [screens], it’ll be pretty nice. Dual 8K and about a 200Hz refresh rate. Maybe in another 50 years?”, he added. Seeing how the PlayStation VR has a 960×1080 resolution per eye with a 120 Hz refresh rate, there still room for improvement to satisfy the Japanese gentleman.
